NIKI LADA, Voice
We are pleased to announce the 2019 ilSUONO's collaboration with the Greek vocalist Niki Lada.
Niki joins the instrumental formation of the resident ensemble to add a unique vocal color, benefitting the participants by expanding the pool of timbral possibilities for their new works.
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1986, Niki Lada is a holder of a Diploma in Classical Voice and Opera Studies and a Diploma in Opera, Drama and Contemporary Dance from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. In 2017 she completes an MA in Voice and Opera Performance in the Francesco Morlacchi Conservatory of Music of Perugia under the guidance of M.G.Pittavini. She has taken part in masterclasses and summer music academies with various artists of international fame like C. Studer, K. Hartgrove, G. Vagianos, S. Theodoridou, G. Hatzinikos and others, while she frequented lessons with Françoise Ferrand (National Opera of Paris), Charon Coste (Jacques Thibaud Conservatory of Bordeaux), Asa Bäverstam, Susanna Eken, Kirsten Buhl Møller (Royal Danish Academy of Music). In 2017, she is selected by the Divertimento Ensemble International Academy for Contemporary Music for the Rondò in Monferrato 2017.
At the age of 23 she performs the role of Miss Pinkerton in G. Menotti’s opera The Old Maid and the Thief, which is the beginning of an exploration
in the 20th century operatic repertoire: Geraldine (A Hand of Bridge-Barber), Elle (La Voix Humaine-Poulenc), Lucy (The Telephone-Menotti), Mme Gobineau (The Medium-Menotti), Mother (Yolka-Rebikov), Miss Pinkerton (The Old Maid and the Thief-Menotti), Little Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood-Barab) and other. She is furthermore a performer of Mozart and baroque repertoire: Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro-Mozart), Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte-Mozart), Cornelia (Il Trionfo dell’Onore-Scarlatti), Serpina (La Serva Padrona-Pergolesi), cantatas and oratorio (Bach, Stradella, etc.)
Strongly attracted by the 20th century and contemporary chamber music too, she has performed music of Berio (Sequenza III, Folk Songs), Berberian (Stripsody), Cage (Aria), Donatoni (Ase), Marco di Bari (Sea’s Widows), Scelsi (Sauh III, IV), Part (Stabat Mater), Vasks, (Kekatu dziesma) , Zorn (Shir Hashirim), Casella (Tre Canzoni Trecentesche), Barber (Two Songs), Poulenc (La Dame de Monte Carlo), Bernstein (La Bonne Cuisine) and many more, has collaborated with the Divertimento Ensemble (Sequenza III, Folk Songs, Sea’s Widows) and has appeared in important festivals and venues such as the Fabbrica del Vapore-Milan, Litta Theatre-Milan, Moncalvo Theatre, Archivio di Stato-Asti, Modern and Contemporary Music Festival of Perugia, the Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto Ed. 59, ED. 60 with works of Berio, Berberian, Scelsi, Vasks, Zorn, Poulenc, Bernstein, Barber. Certain conductors she has worked with are: Sandro Gorli, Friederike Kienle, Viktoriia Vitrenko, Nestor Bayona, Jonas Rannila, Sergio Briziarelli, Georgios Vagianos
She has additionally performed roles as an actress and mime in opera festivals and theatres in Greece and Italy (Antigone, Clytemnestra, Malvolio-Shakespeare, Moschetta-Scarlatti). Some more theatres and venues she has collaborated with either as a singer or an actress are the State Theatre of Thessaloniki, the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, Aneton Theatre-Thessaloniki, Sourliboom Art Space-Thessaloniki, Museum of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki, Pavone Theatre-Perugia, Cesare Caporali Theatre-Panicale, Italia Theatre-Pontebba, Conservatorio Morlacchi di Perugia, Arigoni Theatre-San Vito and many more, while certain directors she has worked with include K.Karatza, C.Giagkouli, A.Milona, S.Isidori, M. Bellussi. She has furthermore participated in the 512 Hours performance of Marina Abramovic in the Serpentine Galleries, London (2014).
As a performer her approach is that of a holistic one. Being fond of the synthesis of the arts, she is currently working on projects with composers, artists, musicians of the experimental scene, fashion designers and directors from Greece and Italy. She is furthermore interested in how certain physical theatre methods can interact with contemporary vocal repertoire and extended techniques.
She is currently working on contemporary repertoire and extended vocal techniques with Alda Caiello.
